Job Duties

Full time ELC teaching staff teach classes, assist with examinations, attend meetings and have an area of responsibility in line with established guidelines.

Full time staff are responsible for an area of course administration, Self Access Centre or assessment. Responsibilities change every one or three years in an annual 'reshuffling' procedure.

Full time teaching staff may also submit project proposals annually. If successful, teaching hours can be bought in order to complete the project. These projects may be funded either by the ELC or by outside funding such as the Teacher Development Fund

Teaching Responsibilities

Teaching staff teach in accordance with published schedules and guidelines.

Contact Information in case of sickness

If you are unable to come in to teach, call the emergency phone number and leave a message. Also, phone numbers and email addresses of all ELC staff are posted on the ELC website.

Teaching Timetables

These timetables are prepared in accordance with timetabling guidelines.

Examination Duties

All teaching staff assist with examinations as part of their teaching load and in accordance with the examinations guidelines and schedule. Examining is an academic activity and invigilation is an integral part of staff's teaching responsibility. Staff members may therefore be assigned to invigilate examinations.

Teachers enter coursework and exam marks electronically using iCMS (internet-based course management system). To get there, go to: CityU e-portal -> My courses -> Internet-based Course Management System (i-CMS)

Meetings

Teaching staff are expected to attend course meetings, induction meetings, marker training meetings, standardization meetings and moderation meetings relevant to the courses they are teaching.

Professional Development

Several systems are in place to support staff professional development including weekly teacher development sessions and subsidies to attend conferences and to attain educational qualifications.

Staff Appraisal

Full time staff are formally appraised on an annual basis in four areas - Teaching, Area of Responsibility, Professional Development and Campus and Community Citizenship. Teacher Feedback Questionnaires (TFQs) are a valuable tool for analyzing teaching effectiveness.

Part Time Teaching Staff

Part time staff have teaching and examination responsibilities similar to those of full time teaching staff.

Clerical and Technical Support

A friendly and helpful team provides teachers and courses with clerical and technical support. Each member has specific course and admin or technical support responsibilities.
