Overview

City University provides both College (Associate Degree) and University (Bachelor's Degree) programmes of study. The ELC offers courses for both these groups:

Assessment structure

ELC assessments are in final exam and coursework formats. College English and University English core courses have final examinations. University English Elective courses are 100% coursework assessed.

English Language Attainment Requirement

This requirement applies to all students and can be satisfied by students entering university with an appropriate grade or by completing specified ELC courses. The requirement differs for College and University students:

The Academic Year

The Academic Year is made up of teaching periods, examination periods, and non teaching days, in accordance with the Academic Calendar.

ELC Policies

The ELC has laid down policies regarding the attendance requirement, lateness, typhoon and rainstorm warnings, consequences of failure, plagiarism and code of conduct. There are also guidelines regarding class scheduling.

ELC Course Admininstration

Students are liable to fail ELC courses due to insufficient attendance. Accurate record keeping is therefore an essential part of course administration.

Add/Drop period Students may add and drop courses during the first two weeks of each semester, so students in ELC classes may change during this period.

Clerical and Technical Support

The friendly ELC support staff have specified course-related, admin and technical duties, all designed to help you do your job better
