About WIILD - the Web-based Induction & Independent Learning Database

This is a site for teachers who want to find out more about the process of independent learning and how to guide their learners through that process.

At the site, you can do an online tutorial about independent learning, where you select your own aims, corresponding actions and evaluate your own progress. Thus you learn about independent learning by experiencing the process! In this way, you become more aware of the needs of your students and better able to advise them about learning styles, task selection, time management and reflection. What’s more, you better understand the support that different kinds of people need in going through the independent learning process.

WIILD is maintained by the English Language Centre, City University of Hong Kong, and includes an online induction for both new and existing staff members. Teachers who complete the induction also experience the process of independent learning.
